Tui Homer B.Optom(Hons) TPA Glaucoma registered
Central Vision Optometry’s founder, Tui Homer (nee Russell) was Taranaki born and raised. She qualified with a Bachelor of Optometry in 2005 from the University of Auckland. Moving forward, she then went on to gain a certificate in Ocular Therapeutics. This qualification allows Tui the rights to prescribe eye medication, and treat anterior segment disease. More recently Tui has undertaken extra studies to allow the independant management of glaucoma.
Tui’s love for Wanaka and it’s people budded in 2007 when she moved here for a winter and has been here ever since. Tui’s other passions, when not in the consulting rooms at Wanaka Lakes Health Centre, include her two young boys, mountain biking along the beautiful Wanaka trails, and snowboarding the local mountains.
Elizabeth Reay B.Optom (Hons) TPA
Elizabeth obtained her Bachelor of Optometry degree from the University of Auckland in 2008, obtaining both Honours and the Senior Award in Optometry. She has over 10 years of experience and worked in four countries including Australia, Vanuatu, Fiji and New Zealand.
Elizabeth is well known for her thoroughness in eye examinations, taking time for each person and treating everyone the way she would want to be treated. She has a particular interest in managing rare eye conditions, born from working in third world countries and in rural locations across Australia, with limited hospital or medical access.
Her hobbies include playing piano, hiking, studying and attending the local church.
Jo Barnes (Dispensing Optician)
Optics has always been a major part of Jo’s life, with four generations of Optometrists in her Dunedin based family.
Jo enjoys taking the time with patients to really understand their needs so she can be confident recommending the best result.
Outside Central Vision, Jo enjoys the outdoors walking her labrador, boating & spending time with her family
Jan Whyte (Practice Manager and Optical Assistant)
Jan moved from Southland to Wanaka in 2013 and has been at Central Vision Optometry ever since. She has been working in optics for over a decade so brings a wealth of knowledge to draw from.
Jan is our chief optical assistant, and keeps an ear to the ground for the latest frame styles and trends. She loves to find the right frame to suit your face and personality, and knows that the right pair of glasses can enhance your look. Jan is also a contact lens technician, teaching patients to insert and remove their contacts with the patience of a Saint.
Jan enjoys boating on our beautiful lake, golf, and spending time with her wonderful family.
Lisa Rodger (Accounts Manager and Optical Assistant)
Lisa joined the Central Vision team in 2014 and quickly became an integral cog that keeps the wheels turning from her wee office, and out on the shop floor helping you choose specs. Lisa has a background in caring for the elderly and has also owned her own businesses in the past. She enjoys working with people and goes out of her way to make sure you are well looked after. Aside from paperwork, Lisa enjoys helping you select the frames and lenses that best suit you.
Outside of work, Lisa loves to travel and go walking in the great outdoors, and has a new found love of paddle boarding.
Katie Bennetts B.Optom (Hons) TPA CAA ACBO member
(On maternity leave)
Katie obtained her Bachelor of Optometry degree from the University of Auckland in 2012 and has since worked in Invercargill and Queenstown, before starting here at Central Vision in 2014.
Katie prides herself on thorough eye examinations and feels that patent education is an important part of the consultation. She takes the time to explain results to you and discuss all of your options with you.
Katie has a special interest in working with children, and in early 2018 complete the Practical Vision Therapy Programme through the Australian College of Behavioural Optometrists. We have since set up our Behavioural Optometry testing and Vision Therapy programme so we can better serve the needs of our patients, especially our little ones! In her free time Katie enjoys skiing, rock climbing, travel and spending time with her husband and their two cats.
Fiona Johnson (Optical Assistant)
Fiona has quickly become a valued part of our team. Having working in an optometry practice and in the dental industry in the past, Fiona brings professionalism with a smiling face. While already having a fantastic practical on-the -ground knowledge, Fiona’s interest in optics has extended to her undertaking the formal dispensing optician qualification.
Originally from Australia, Fiona and her husband have well and truely made Wanaka their home
